FightHype.com recently caught up with MMA legend Frank Shamrock, who's set to face Nick Diaz in the main event of Strikeforce's first card televised on Showtime. To our surprise, Shamrock revealed that he's also currently working on a potential move to boxing and is already looking at some possible opponents. "It's been a dream since I was a little boy and becoming a boxing champion is what got me into mixed martial arts. I've always wanted to try it. I'm running out of guys to fight in MMA, so watch out boxers," he replied. Shamrock, who's taking his boxing dream seriously, confirmed that both Showtime and Strikeforce are backing his decision to compete in boxing. In fact, Showtime is actually taking it one step further.
"I've already talked to Showtime about it and we're looking for opponents right now," Shamrock revealed. Last year, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silver made it public that he always dreamed of fighting boxing legend Roy Jones Jr., who for years seemed unbeatable and was often times referred to as "Superman." When asked if he himself had an opponent of choice, Shamrock was prompt to pick Roy Jones' kryptonite, Antonio Tarver, who shocked the world be becoming the first man to knockout Jones. "I always thought Antonio Tarver had amazing game and was beautiful in the ring. Years ago, when I used to watch him, I knew he would kick the crap out of me because I didn't have the skills back then, but now, I think I have the skills to stand up with him," Shamrock replied. Given that Antonio Tarver calls himself "The Legend Killer" and Frank Shamrock calls himself "The Legend," a clash between the two, if nothing else, would have a catchy title.
Shamrock was recently spotted front row at the recent clash between undisputed Super Flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan and challenger Jorge Arce. When asked if he was surprised by the reception he received, he stated, "It was very different and I was blown away by the pageantry. People were singing and dancing and I was very surprised at the reception because it's an entirely different community there."
