NATE CAMPBELL: "ZAB JUDAH IS A LOUD-MOUTHED WUSS"

By Percy Crawford | February 26, 2009
NATE CAMPBELL:

"I want to fight as soon as possible and right now, Zab Judah's doing a lot of talking, I want him to be my first victim. Zab Judah is a loud-mouthed wuss! He ain't no killer because a killer won't tell you what they gonna do to you. You don't hear me saying I'm going to do nothing to him. But I guarantee you this, if they make the fight, I will make him wish I had never been born...I'll hit him on the chin and make him walk like Bambi again," stated former lightweight champion Nate Campbell as he talked about his move up to 140 and a strong desire to face Zab Judah. Check out what else he had to say about his win over Ali Funeka and much more.

PC: Congratulations on the victory my man.

NC: Thanks man! I'm sorry that I couldn't maintain the weight. I wish I could have gave my titles up. Losing on the scales is just embarrassing.

PC: You told me about 3 interviews ago that you didn't know how much longer you could make 135 because of your age. Was it just one of those situations that caught up with you?

NC: It caught me. I looked at my body the other day and I'm not fat, I'm not pudgy, I'm not even holding a lot of water. I was telling Terry if you look on YouTube, they have open workouts for Funeka and me and I'm very thick. I'm not fat, but I'm thick. I was ripped up so good at 139 or 140, but if you look at me in the fight, I looked bloated. My body was not releasing anything. I took so much out of my body that anything I put into it, it held on to. So it looked like I was fat. I was in great shape.

PC: I've heard fighters say before that there was just no more to lose. They'll go in the sauna and don't sweat. Is that what happened to you?

NC: That's exactly what happened. I had a nylon suit on. It was long sleeve and I had baby oil and alcohol all over my body and I lost a half of pound in 2 hours.

PC: You still went in and fought like a champion and that's actually the deepest I've seen you dig in a fight. How did it feel to pull out a win like that knowing what you were up against?

NC: Looking at how my fight went, I think I showed something that no other guy in any division can say they went through. What I did was I showed my level of professionalism and fighting despite everything that I had went through. No matter what happened about me not making weight, I fought the fight and I won the fight.

PC: Ali Funeka was a tough dude. Were you surprised at how tough he was?

NC: I knew he was tall, but I thought 6'1 was a little shorter than that.

PC: You found a home for that overhand right. Was that something you knew you could take advantage of coming into the fight or was that an adjustment you made during the fight?

NC: I knew he stood up tall, but he surprised me with his strengths. He showed me he could box because I made him. A lot of people don't realize Ali Funeka is a puncher. I made the puncher turn into a straight boxer.

PC: It looked awkward for you to kind of chase such a big man around at times, but he definitely showed he could box.

NC: Yeah! A lot of people don't understand that I'm a physically strong guy because I don't look like I'm physically strong. I don't think he understood my hand speed. A lot of guys don't understand my hand speed because I'm not flashy with my hand speed. I don't throw nothing in combinations. When I throw something, it is designed to break your body in half.

PC: You're moving up to 140 and there are a lot of good guys there to fight. When would you like to get back in there?

NC: I want to fight as soon as possible and right now, Zab Judah's doing a lot of talking, I want him to be my first victim.

PC: I saw him say something to the effect of you and your trainer wearing bullet proof hats for mentioning his name.

NC: Zab Judah is a loud-mouthed wuss! He aint no killer because a killer won't tell you what they gonna do to you. You don't hear me saying I'm going to do nothing to him. But I guarantee you this, if they make the fight, I will make him wish I had never been born.

PC: Zab is one of those guys that likes to try and intimidate his opponents by getting in their face at press conferences. I know that wouldn't sit well with you?

NC: He don't want to do that with me. I'll hit him on the chin and make him walk like Bambi again!

PC: Who do you like this weekend between Marquez/Diaz?

NC: I don't like neither one of them. Neither one of them wanted the WBO or WBA title back when I had them and now they both want them. They only wanted the Ring Magazine belt when I had the belts and now that I don't have them, they want them. As soon as they found out I couldn't make weight, they were trying to get somebody to sanction it to where they can fight for my belts.

PC: And they have a tournament going on that you wouldn't have been a part of even if you stayed at lightweight?

NC: They don't want me!

PC: Good luck in your move to 140. Thanks for your time brother. Anything you want to say to close out the interview?

NC: I want to thank the fans for supporting me. I'm sorry for not making weight, but lets move to 140 and make a whole bunch of noise. Not noiseÂ…I want to wreak havoc on the division.
