According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, despite Bob Arums unwillingness to release the details, the highly-anticipated Pacquiao vs. Hatton showdown did nearly 850,000 pay-per-view buys.
Rafael could not get an exact number as promoter Bob Arum refused to reveal it and instructed Golden Boy Promotions and HBO PPV to do the same. "We did very well. Everyone involved in this event did a good job, but it's nobody's business what the numbers are but ours and the fighters. I'm not gonna release the figures," Arum would inform Rafael. However, according Rafael's sources, the official number will fall somewhere between 825,000 and 850,000 or more.
While that number is just shy of the 915,000 buys that Mayweather vs. Hatton did, it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of. It'll be interesting to see exactly how many buys Mayweather's July 18 return against Juan Manuel Marquez will generate.
