"I will have to go back and watch it, but I think I was fine," stated a disappointed Martin Kampmann immediately following his first round TKO loss to UFC newcomer Paul Daley. Kampmann admitted he didn't fight the smartest fight strategically, but felt he should have been given the benefit of the doubt. "I've been hurt a lot worse. I think I was just fine," Kampmann added. He continued, "I mean, don't get me wrong, I fought a stupid fight. I was trading bombs with a guy that wants to trade bombs, but I think I should have been given the benefit of the doubt. I was worse off in my fight with McFedries."
It was The Hitman's first loss at welterweight, but it appears to be a costly one. Kampmann was originally scheduled to face Swick in a number one contender fight, but after a concussion forced him out of the fight, Daley stepped in to take his place and ultimately score the upset. The winner of Kampmann vs. Swick was supposed to be next in line for a shot at welterweight kingpin Georges St. Pierre. Now it appears a bout between Daley and Swick will determine the next challenger for the title. "I don't know what's next, you know? But what can you do," Kampmann remarked.
