While attending Manny Pacquiao media day, everybody seemed to agree on one thing: Top Rank and Team Pacquiao are pulling for Shane Mosley to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May. Both Freddie Roach and Bob Arum would love to make the fight and agree that Shane would be much easier to deal with in negotiations. I wonder how that makes Mosley feel, considering how last year he was reduced to begging for a fight, offering to move all the way down to 140 to fight Pacquiao. How sad is that?
Johnson Can't Catch A Break
Glen Johnson has been shelved once again now that his fight with Tavoris Cloud is off the Berto-Quintana undercard next month. Cloud, the IBF Light Heavyweight champion, has pulled out, citing injury leaving Johnson without an opponent. You can't help but feel bad for Johnson. This guy can never seem to catch a break and he's not getting any younger either.
Holyfield Licensed
Have we just seen a sign of the apocalypse? The Nevada State Athletic Commission has just licensed 47-year-old Evander Holyfield for his fight against 41-year-old Francois Botha. A $29.95 pay per view, it's a fight that may land the winner a title shot down the line. Can you believe that? Personally, I think this shows just how incompetent some state commissions, including Nevada, really can be. God forbid Holyfield get a title shot against either Klitschko. His chances of being killed in the ring are increasing every passing year. The average age of the fighters on the two April pay per views (Jones-Hopkins II, Botha-Holyfield) is almost 44 years old. That being said, whether they'll admit it or not, there are still pigeons out there that will buy these pay-per-views.
Best Fight Of The Year
If you didn't watch the Antonio Escalante-Miguel Roman fight last week, you absolutely must. Best fight of the year thus far.
Don't Hold Your Breath
Fights that won't happen anytime soon: Darchinyan-Donaire II, Timothy Bradley against any junior welterweight, as sad as that is, Paul Williams-Kelly Pavlik or Paul Williams-Sergio Martinez II, and also add Mayweather-Pacquiao to that list as well.
