Although he's the underdog in his long-awaited rematch with Bernard Hopkins this Saturday, Roy Jones Jr. has the support of one of his old opponents. "Like I told you a month ago, I think Roy gonna beat Bernard Hopkins," stated James "Lights Out" Toney as he shared his thoughts on his fellow future Hall of Famers. Despite Jones coming off of a TKO loss to Danny Green, Toney believes that he still has enough left in the tank to defeat current king of the light heavyweight division. "Man, Bernard just trying to get paid; that's all he trying to do. He pickin' and choosin' his battles. Roy got something left in him to beat Bernard Hopkins."
In Toney's opinion, Hopkins has been fooling the general public with his claims of being an old school fighter. In fact, Toney is convinced that despite all of Bernard's tough talk, he's really soft at heart. "I seen in the little previews Bernard trying to talk all hard and shit. Bernard ain't hard! Bernard phony man! When is everybody going to look and learn the guy is a phony," Toney stated as he explained his reasoning. "When he fought Robert Allen and he got knocked out of the ring, he was crying. Old school fighters don't cry, they get even. When he got hit low against Tito, what did he do? Cry to the referee. Bernard Hopkins is a fucking world-class whiner."
Surprisingly, Toney did give credit to the first man to ever defeat him. "Man, I give Roy his credit because he did what he did, so I'm going to give Roy his credit. Roy has a legacy in the sport, but Bernard don't get no credit," he added. "He fought 20 title defenses in the middleweight division against taxi cab drivers. I can't name 3 of the people he fought. He didn't fight the best in the middleweight division like I did."
