ALA fighter Michael "Bruce Lee" Domingo needed just two rounds to dispose of Colombian Luis Melendez in their fight held Sunday, May 23, Philippine time at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
Domingo, a native of Libac, Sultan Kudarat, controlled most of the opening round and was more aggressive against the seemingly tentative and gun shy Melendez.
In the second round, Domingo unleashed a powerful and nicely-timed short left hook that connected flush just below the Colombian´s ribcage, sending Melendez to the canvas, writhing in agony. Melendez failed to beat the count and Domingo capped off the night--which was mostly dominated by ALA boxers-- with an impressive victory.
In the supporting bouts, lightweight Jimrex "Executioner" Jaca stopped Kenyan James Kimori in the fourth round, 18-year-old wunderkind Jason Pagara won by TKO against Romeo Jakosalem in the second round, and James Bacon secured his 10th straight win by stopping Cirillo Espino in three rounds after Espino got hit by an unintentional low blow and could not continue despite the five-minute recovery period given to him by the referee. Espino had to be taken out of the arena in a stretcher.
Melendez had fought against and lost to another ALA fighter, Z "The Dream" Gorres late last year in Las Vegas. However, Gorres collapsed in his corner after the fight and had to be rushed to the hospital and operated on due to a subdural hematoma on his brain.
Domingo´s record improved to 41 wins, 14 losses and two draws while Melendez´s record dropped to 26 wins, seven losses and one draw.
