CUNNINGHAM RESPONDS TO SHAW: "WHY DO WE NEED GOLDEN BOY?"

CUNNINGHAM RESPONDS TO SHAW:

"We like gary's concept and would fight any one of the top guys, but if Golden Boy is not willing to participate, why not move forward with a fall doubleheader? Bradley-Judah/Alexander-Soto," stated Kevin Cunningham, world-class trainer of WBC & IBF jr. welterweight champion Devon Alexander, as he responded to recent comments made by Gary Shaw, promoter of WBO jr. welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, regarding a potential 140-pound tournament. In a recent interview, Shaw suggested that he's extremely interested in the concept of a tournament featuring the top jr. welterweights in the division, but the reluctance of Golden Boy Promotions to include any of their own fighters, like Amir Khan, Marcos Maidana or Juan Manuel Marquez, makes it difficult to bring the idea to fruition. Cunningham, however, disagrees and believes that an HBO doubleheader featuring both champions would also lead to an eventual showdown between the top two fighters in the division.

"Judah wants a title shot at 140 and would be the perfect southpaw opponent for Bradley. Soto, a three-time champion, wants to move up to 140 and challenge for a forth world title and has a good Mexican following. So why do we need Golden Boy," Cunningham continued in a recent email sent to FightHype. "Alexander-Bradley is the fight the fans want to see and this is the perfect build-up. HBO is looking for boxing's next star. The winner of Alexander-Bradley is it. An American star at that!"

So what do you say boxing fans? If Golden Boy Promotions is reluctant to participate, would you be interested in seeing a doubleheader on HBO featuring Bradley vs. Judah and Alexander vs. Soto? Let us know your thoughts.
