"I don't care who Manny fights next, but Pacquiao shouldn't be fighting Antonio Margarito. This shouldn't be the fight. He [Margarito] shouldn't be rewarded. I don't believe for a minute that he didn't know what was going on with the wraps. I have wrapped hands for a long time...I don't know how he wasn't aware because as you wrap, you generally talk to your fighter to make sure they are not too tight. And they are always messing with them. Once you're done, you kind of punch at things to know how hard or soft they are, so I don't believe that he didn't know," stated world-class boxing/MMA trainer Ron Frazier, as he shared his thoughts on the upcoming November 13 clash between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito. Check it out!
PC: Mikkel Kessler had to pull out of the Super Six tournament with an eye injury. Would you like to see Jermain Taylor be brought back to fight Alan Green for his spot back or would you rather see the tournament simply move on without Green because of his first performance?
RF: I would like to see the tournament move forward without Alan Green. Alan Green is a hard puncher and at this point, I don't know if you bring a Jermain Taylor back. I just don't know what he has left in that chin of his. I don't think you reward Alan Green for his last performance and the tournament can move on without Alan because he didn't put on much of a fight anyway. I mean, maybe you can get one of the Canadian 68 pounders to come down and see what they got, but I definitely wouldn't bring Jermain Taylor back.
PC: The Texas Commission granted Antonio Margarito a license after California denied him. I'm sure that's no surprise to you, although I think it is sad that he is about to get a huge payday. What is your take on him fighting Pacquiao in November and the commission granting him a license?
RF: The Texas Commission is a joke. It's absolutely a joke. Nevada wouldn't even hear it and basically said, "You're not going to get licensed here." California wouldn't do it and they are supposed to have these agreements where if a guy is not licensed or suspended in one state, you kind of honor that and Texas didn't. Bob Arum came in with this sad story and was saying Margarito is a victim and they gave him his license. You know what? I don't care who Manny fights next, but Pacquiao shouldn't be fighting Antonio Margarito. This shouldn't be the fight. He [Margarito] shouldn't be rewarded. I don't believe for a minute that he didn't know what was going on with the wraps. I have wrapped hands for a long time and as you are wrapping hands, you're asking people, "How do they feel? Is it too tight or uncomfortable?" They know what's going on with their wraps. I don't believe for a moment that he didn't know.
PC: I agree. Unless Margarito has some other kind of routine to get his hands wrapped other than the typical chest on the back of a chair with your hand resting over the top of it while staring at the guy wrapping your hands in the eye, I don't see how he didn't know.
RF: I don't know how he wasn't aware because as you wrap, you generally talk to your fighter to make sure they are not too tight. And they are always messing with them. Once you're done, you kind of punch at things to know how hard or soft they are, so I don't believe that he didn't know.
PC: I have never seen a kid give away his undefeated record the way Chad Dawson did to Jean Pascal. I don't know if it was an off night or what, but what did you think of the way Chad fought a few weeks back?
RF: I think he was acting like he was the best fighter in the world and that people were just going to bow down to him. He went into another man's backyard, that was a champion, and expected him to just give up his belt. He went into a man's backyard who also thinks he's the best 175-pounder and you gotta take it. He had to come in with the mindset of kind of being a mercenary out there and he didn't have that at all. It's like he showed up and thought, "Okay, I will box him a little bit to show that I got skills and he will perpetuate," and that wasn't the case at all.
PC: You stay on top of both games, boxing and MMA. That's why I like to bring you on. I appreciate the time. Is there anything you want to say in closing?
RF: I try to stay on top of the game and I appreciate guys like you that are very knowledgeable. I would like to thank my sponsor, Inflict Sports, and Xtreme Couture!
