According to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com, WBA jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan and interim champion Marcos Maidana have agreed to face each other December 11. "We came to an agreement last night. Khan is on board. Maidana is on board and I am finalizing everything with Mandalay Bay," Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer informed Rafael earlier today. Despite Khan's initial demand that the fight take place in his native England, the two will instead meet on neutral grounds at the Mandalay Bay Resrot & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"I want this fight and the fans want to see this fight. It's two explosive styles meeting up. It's the explosive puncher [Maidana] against the quick and explosive boxer," Khan commented. "They say Maidana has a style to beat a boxer, so let's see how good he is. Maidana wants to stop me from having my legacy, but that is not going to happen."
The bout is tentatively scheduled as the main event of a doubleheader to be televised on HBO.
