"In two fights, Aaron Pryor Jr. will be a lethal threat in the super middleweight division," stated world-class trainer James Ali Bashir, who shared his thoughts on Aaron Pryor Jr.'s win over Dyah Davis this past Friday on ShoBox: The New Generation. Sharing training duties with Aaron's father, Hall of Famer Aaron Pryor Sr., Bashir is convinced that Pryor's performance proved that he will soon be ready for the best that the division has to offer. "If the fight with Dyah Davis was 10 rounds, like I requested, we would've stopped Dyah. We had him hurt several times and he was done at the end of the fight," he explained.
In fact, Bashir is so confident, he's eager to pit Pryor Jr. against another fighter who had an impressive performance on Friday's ShoBox card, undefeated Edwin Rodriguez, who stopped James McGirt Jr. in the 9th round. "Dibella wants to do another fight with us and we want Edwin Rodriguez," Bashir proclaimed. "We respect Rodriguez's skills and we think this fight would be the fight to bring out the best in Aaron and put us in the spotlight. We want 12 rounds for the title he picked up in the James McGirt Jr. fight. I feel in a tough fight, Aaron would beat Rodriguez," he continued, explaining his logic for wanting to pit the two up-and-coming fighters against each other.
Whether or not Rodriguez will be quite as eager to face Pryor Jr. remains to be seen, however, it's a bout that makes sense given that both men just fought on the same card.
