"He can be beat. I see enough to know that I can pull it off. I'm not worrying about it because he's still fighting off of what I taught him; he's fighting on his own. They can tell him what to do, but they don't know nothing; trust me. It's a whole different fight now and you will see," stated world-renowned trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he talked more about the anticipated clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya. PC: What did you think of the Taylor/Pavlik fight?
FM: I thought the fight was close and Jermain put up a better fight, but he stillÂ…when you talk about winning a fight against a champion, you have to come forward. You can't just keep going backwards. I thought that Pavlik got hit with the better shots in the fight, but Jermain just wouldn't keep his assault going. The rounds that were close man, that's the champ. You have to create something. He hit him with some good shots, but he let him get off. In the last couple of rounds, Taylor just stopped punching. He wasn't dominating like that to where he could give up a couple of rounds. Now he's talking about fighting Roy.
PC: What do you think about that match-up? I don think that's a good look for Taylor!
FM: I think Roy's going to hurt him. If he loses to Roy, that would be 3 losses in a row man. If he messes with Roy, I'm not saying he's going to get the Roy of old, but I just can't see him doing nothing with Roy man. That's not a good fight for him. I'm going to tell you the truth. Did you see that other guy fight? Dudley?
PC: John Duddy?
FM: Yeah, Duddy! He talking about fighting PavlikÂ…man, that guy would get knocked out in 1 or 2 rounds. That dude can't fight a lick man. He was getting beat by a bum. The bum really beat him. That dude whooped Duddy so bad man, when the dude tried to miss Duddy, he would run into the punch anyway. Duddy wouldn't let the guy miss; that's how bad it was. Pavlik man, I'm going to be honest man, Pavlik would hurt him.
PC: Winky Wright is calling Pavlik out too.
FM: Winky got the right style to beat the shit out of Pavlik. Winky knows how to place his punches better and Pavlik ain't going to be hitting him with all of that hard stuff. Winky going to block all of that stuff man. What is Pavlik talking about?
PC: He said he would fight him, but Bob Arum said no.
FM: Bob Arum know better. You remember they were talking about putting Pacman and Guzman together and Bob Arum said no. He said he didn't do a good enough show. How in the world you win 8 or 9 rounds and you didn't do a good enough show?
PC: Chad Dawson will be tested this go around with Glen Johnson.
FM: A lot of people think that Glen Johnson's going to beat Dawson. It might not have been winnable before, but it's winnable now. I give all of my fighters speed, combinationsÂ…use your jab a lot, move your head, drop up under punches, counter punch, stiff arm, up jab, straight jab, up and down with the jab, fake downstairs and shoot upstairs, fake with the left hook and drop the right hand and faint left and fire the right. It's so much stuff I can do man.
PC: Who do you like in the fight this Saturday between Marquez and Vazquez?
FM: The Marquez brothers are some good fighters, but I tell you one thing, ain't nobody trying to see Guzman.
PC: Touching on the Oscar fight for a second, Steve Forbes is a good look because he's, no disrespect, but a poor man's Floyd Mayweather Jr.
FM: Steve Forbes is a real good look man because he's been trained by me and my other brothers too. I'm the one that originated the shoulder roll. I did that. Roger or Jeff didn't do that. I taught Steve that and it's a couple of other guys that use it; maybe about 3 or 4 other guys use it pretty good. The guy that stays here with me, he uses it good and Ron Johnson uses it good as well. Steve is the best look that Oscar is going to get. He gives us somewhat of a look of Lil' Floyd. Steve ain't as fluent though. We'll see when it happens. Floyd's faster and smarter than Steve and just all the way around a better fighter because he's been doing it a long time. He's more conditioned, more slick and has more endurance than Steve. You name it and he's better. That's not to say Lil' Floyd can't be beat because he can be beat. I see enough to know that I can pull it off. I'm not worrying about it because he's still fighting off of what I taught him; he's fighting on his own. PC: I'm definitely ready for that fight, although I'm not looking past Forbes.
FM: We're not either, but it's on it's way! I just hope he don't do nothing stupid with that wrestling stuff man because that ain't what's going on. That fight is getting ready to come. You can believe what you want to believe, but with his daddy in the corner, he already know. You can believe that! He's gonna take a chance, but he gonna wish he hadn't. We leaving Sunday to head to Puerto Rico and we're going to get enough time in and make sure everything is right.
PC: Keep me posted on how everything is going Big Floyd. I hear you're in the gym, so I won't hold you up anymore.
FM: Oh yeah! All you have to do Percy is call me. Take care of yourself now man.
